Were you in love with the androgynous suiting trend of autumn/winter 2018/19? Me too. The good news is that the sharp tailoring trend is sticking around for spring/summer 2019—and not just sticking around, but being revamped in fresh and contemporary ways. Whether you’re already a fan of the monochromatic two-piece from seasons past or you’re only just hopping on the bandwagon, here are 3 ways you can revamp the suit to stay ahead of the style pack this spring.

1. Through Lightweight Fabrics

Ideal for work or play, the beauty of a monochromatic suit is that it can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Try a skinny fit for the office with a chic camisole, oversized handbag, and heeled court shoes to show that you mean business. Alternatively, dress down a relaxed fit with a graphic tee, sneakers, and a grab-and-go bag for casual affairs. That said, be sure to steer clear of heavy fabrics, such as wool or tweed, and say hello to more lightweight and breathable fabrics for warmer weather. If you want to do this trend right, cotton, seersucker, linen, and chambray just became your new best friends.

2. Through Fruity Colors

In addition to fabrics designed for colder temperatures, it’s time to kiss goodbye to the jewel tones of AW18/19 suiting and embrace citrus shades instead. Inspired by the catwalks of Balenciaga, Roksanda, and Peter Pilotto, opt for hues that will pop against a clear, blue sky and ditch the dark, wintry varieties. We’re talking: strawberry pink, lime green, banana yellow, and blood orange—to name a few. The exception to the rule? Majestic marigold, as showcased by Etro and Boss. Either way, wear your suit loud and proud with minimal accessories, black or white shoes, and nothing underneath to make the maximum amount of impact.

3. Through a Shorts and Blazer Co-Ord

The utilitarian craze of spring/summer 2018 is also set to return this spring in the form of boiler suits, combat pants, and utility shirts. This theme is carrying over into suiting and, more specifically, morphing into shorts and blazer co-ord as the power stance two-piece of SS19. A cool replacement to the AW18/19 pantsuit, this combination can be diverse and versatile for a number of occasions. Wear yours in traditional military color, like khaki, tan, and beige, and team it with an elegant pair of flats or boots to keep your aesthetic classic and refined. Alternatively, consider sneakers and a plain tank top for a look that screams laid-back luxe.

The suit trend might be here to stay, but it’s been severely updated for SS19. Whether you choose a lightweight two-piece, a fruity hue, a shorts-and-blazer co-ord, or find an option that’s a combination of all three, one thing’s for sure: the spring suit is guaranteed to turn heads this season. I’m seriously obsessed.
