Spring/Summer 2019 has been the catalyst for a new obsession on the style scene.

Step forward, the satin dress—fashion’s new little darling.

Usually, a fabric that’s reserved for prom nights and wedding days, satin is currently dominating the high street and the influencer community after first being seen on the SS19 designer catwalks. I’m talking about the Marc Jacobs, Versace, and Roksanda shows—to name a few.

Sure, anything shiny ties into the opulence macro trend that consists of extravagant shapes and luxury detailing (pearl hair-clips anyone?). However, the satin dress seems to be stepping into its own of late. And here are 5 reasons why.

1. It Works for a Number of Occasions

The beauty of a satin frock is that you can dress it up or down depending on the occasion.

Granted, it’s probably not going to quite right for a long walk or a quick trip to your local coffee shop. That said, this trend dominates when you throw on a slip style over a cute tee with sneakers for smart-casual affairs and—of course—when you allow a fitted design to stand alone for those special events.

Personally, I love a deep V-neck version that pulls in at the waist with barely-there heels and a metallic clutch for a night out on the town. Did someone say tres chic?

2. It’s Comfortable

Unlike taffeta or silk, a satin dress is pretty comfy to wear and moves well with your body—especially if you invest in a looser-fitting option.

And a bonus? The fact that the material is thin and fuss-free keeps you feeling (and looking) extra cool during the warm summer months. Win-win.

3. It’s Versatile

Due to demand, there are now many different variations of the satin dress that you could choose to add interest to your summer closet.

If you want to be ahead of the style pack, satin dresses with little details like cowl necks, pleats and ruching are particularly hot this season.

Having said that, make sure you try lots of options to find out which designs work best with your personal style and body shape.

4. It’s Effortless

Fashion goddesses all over the world are continuing to thank their lucky stars that all they have to do is throw on a satin shirt dress underneath a chunky pullover with flats to be on-trend for SS19.

Simple? Yes. Stylish? Without a doubt.

It really is as easy as that.

5. It Makes You Feel Like a Queen

Finally, there’s something about a satin dress that makes me feel like a Queen when I put one on.

Is it the silky feel of the fabric? Or the way that the satin clings to my skin? Or that it takes my outfit from zero to hero in a matter of moments? (Probably all three, to be honest.)

Above all, anything that makes me feel like a Queen also makes me act like a Queen. It’s a confidence boost in the form of a dress. And who isn’t down for that?
