Dress Willow and Clay
Rocking your underwear as outerwear is starting become the norm for the Spring/Summer season. After all, the nineties revival was rife on the catwalks for SS19 once again this year, with the slip dress being no exception.
From classic black, belted options at Versace to colorful fabrics with opposing lace trims at Marc Jacobs, it’s time to truly say hello to the shift dress. Creating a feminine silhouette, showcasing your curves and shoulders, and falling just below the knee, this slinky little number exposes just the right amount of skin.
But how do I style it I hear you ask? Well, read on to find out not just how to wear it—but how to wear it for every occasion.
For Casual Affairs
One of my favorite ways to rock a slip dress is by layering it up for lunch with the family or for grabbing coffee with a friend.
Throw yours on over a plain tee with sturdy sneakers and a crossbody bag for a fun, youthful look. Alternatively, if it’s a little chilly, swap the tee for a chunky knit jumper or cute cardigan over the top for an ensemble just as snugly as it is stylish.
For Smart Casual Events
Heading out for date night or to see a movie? Try pairing your slip dress with heeled Western-style ankle boots, layered necklaces and a fringed bag for a cool, bohemian vibe.
Need an extra layer? No problem—simply put on a slim-fit turtleneck jumper and pantyhose underneath to create a fashion-forward combination that can battle the elements.
On the other hand, if you’re going out for drinks with the girls, you might want to eliminate the turtleneck and pantyhose. Instead, add a fierce biker jacket and barely-there heels to amp up the vintage glamor.

For Work Purposes
To make a slip dress work for business meetings or a full day in the office, why not team it with a boxy-looking blazer and minimal jewelry. Want to channel an androgynous feel? Complete the look with flat brogues and a mannish briefcase.
Otherwise, opt for court shoes and a designer leather tote for a professional yet pretty aesthetic that’s tres chic.
Styling the Slip Dress to Perfection
There are many ways you can wear the slip dress to fall in line with your personal style and body shape.
Always remember that you don’t have to choose the figure-hugging options, you can decide to go with the loose-fitting designs instead. You could even belt yours around the middle to define your waist and emphasize your womanly frame.
Either way, don’t be afraid of experimenting with different looks to find out which ones you prefer. Wear your slip dress with pride and this inner confidence will shine through and make you the most captivating person in the room.
